Autopsy

The basic reason for an autopsy is to determine the medical cause of death. The primary reason is to gather evidence for presentation in a court of law.

Autopsies are not always performed and are at the discretion of the Coroner and Prosecutor.

If an autopsy was performed or going to be performed on your loved one, our office will work to prevent any delay. Your next step will be to contact the funeral home of your choice and begin to set up arrangements.

Autopsy results are typically available 4-6 weeks after the date of death. You may request a copy of the autopsy if you are considered the legal next of kin.
